Outbreak of illnesses in 1865
I would like to know if there was any outbreak of illnesses in 1865 when at least two of my family died in the July Qu.I don't know where they lived. Also I am trying to find out about Music halls around this time. Pauline
I am unaware of any specific outbreak of illnesses in 1865 although Cholera and Smallpox were problems in the mid 1800,s in most cities due to the deteriorating and contaminated water supplies as the cities grew. The only place I can think you can research the information is the medical data from Dr Duncan who was the city`s and World`s first Medical Officer for Health held at the Liverpool Record Office in William Brown Street. There is an report by Dr Duncan relating to the condition of Grave yards and the possible effects on public health on our web site.
Liverpool had a number of music halls situated across the city from the Georgian period but I do not have any details and on checking our journals I note that no articles have been written on that particular subject.
