ear Sir/Madam
I would most grateful for any information about the Schintz family in Liverpool.
Hans Gaspard Schintz was a merchant of Liverpool who traded in S American phosphates from the 1860s until his death in 1912. His daughter Susan Dora Cecilia Schintz was born in 1868 (she often dropped the Susan). I have absolutely no information about her (other than her birth and census records) until 1906.
I was wondering if there was anyone in your Society who has any information about here before this date?
With thanks in anticipation.
Regards
Dr John Athersuch

John,
ReplyDeleteI don’t know anything about Hans but since I’m a Schintz I might be able to point you in the right direction. The Schintz family (well, most of them) is from Zurich and the original spelling is Schinz. Many times the spelling was changed to Schintz when immigrating to English speaking countries. That’s what my American branch did when they immigrated to Wisconsin in 1851.
Swiss records are maintained in the “home town” or heimatort of the family. Our heimatort is the village of Oberrieden in the district of Horgen in the canton of Zurich.
BTW…if Hans is one of the Swiss Schintzes then he’s not Jewish.
