Higsons Beer Mats

Hello LHS,
can you help settle an argument that the Liverpool Brewers once ran a advertising campaign on thier beers mats using the names of Liverpool streets.

Best wishes

Alan

  1. Hello Alan,

they certainly did. Some of the names (from memory) were Gwladyst Street, Doc Road, Albert Dock, Belle Vale, Count Erode, Birk N Head, and of course Penny Lane.

  3. I used to collect these...I'm sure the one that says 'Higsons Everton' should be 'Gwladys Street'. Sorry if the spellings wrong, I'm a red!

  4. There was also Mag Hull - a famous Landlady (IIRC), Wallace E Tunnel - a champion Jockey(I think), Scotty Road - the momeory is fading... Certain about the first two, may be wrong about the last.

  5. There was also (if memory serves) one for 'Rock Ferry', with a cartoon which looked very like Bryan F.

  7. They did indeed brew their own lager. Higsons's Pilsner Lager and then Kaltenberg.
